Clinical Benefits Carbamazepine is effective in managing acute mania and maintenance treatment in bipolar disorder. It is particularly beneficial for patients who may not respond to or tolerate lithium, valproate, or other mood stabilizers. It is also used when other first-line medications are ineffective or have side effects. It is less effective for treating bipolar depression, making it more suitable for mania and mixed states.
